Medicine Hat Co-op wins award

In 2011, Medicine Hat Co-op received an award for Community Involvement at the Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet.  This is the second year in a row that Medicine Hat co-op has been honoured with this recognition.

The Chamber Business Awards are an annual event held by the Medicine Hat Chamber of Commerce.  They recognize businesses that excel in their sector or delivery of service. 

The Co-op is grateful for this recognition, as we pride ourselves on  our commitment to our community.  We are active in the Medicine Hat community in a number of ways:

·         Supporting 4-H clubs in Medicine Hat and surrounding areas.

·         Giving various door prizes, raffle items and other donations to numerous community groups.

·         Partnering with the Medicine Hat Tigers whereby customers are able to purchase game tickets at a discounted price.

·        Promotion of minor sports teams with the Co-op Gift Card fundraiser for kids in sports and youth activities such as minor hockey, school bands, swim teams, etc.

Last year Medicine Hat Co-op paid out over $40,000.00 to community organizations!

The Co-op participates in employment, work experience, and job shadowing in cooperation with Medicine Hat organizations that specialize in assisting persons with disabilities integrate into the workplace.

·         CORE (Clients Ongoing Rehabilitation & Equality) Association

·         REDI (Rehabilitation and Employment for Developing Independence) Enterprise Society

·         CES (Community Employment Services)

The employment and work experiences at Medicine hat Co-op allow individuals to experience a position they might find interesting and see if it is a good fit.  One example of a success story is Tim, who has been working as a cart manager with Medicine Hat Co-op for over 14 years.  He found a good employer with Co-op and anticipates working with them until he retires.
